Windows Speed-UpBoot Windows 9x/ME/SE br> On the root drive (in general this is C:) there is an hidden,write-protected system-file named MSDOS.SYS. This file regulates the booting behavior of windows in an high rate. For editing this file, you will have to open the command prompt and change to the root directory. This command will enable you to edit it : "attrib -h -r -s msdos.sys". Then you can edit it with "edit msdos.sys". After saving the changes you will have to re-enable the protections with "attrib +h +r +s msdos.sys". We recommend these settings : [OPTIONS] BootDelay=0 (Delay in seconds, before Windows starts booting) DisableLog=0 (Do not create a boot log) Logo=0 (Do not show the boot logo) DrvSpace=0 (Do not load Drivespace drivers (not required, if you don't use drive compression)) DblSpace=0 (Do not load Doublespace drivers (not required, if you don't use drive compression)) Autoscan=0 (Do not load Scandisk) Results : Boot time between 15-30 seconds, depending on desktop manager (tested with VIA M10000, 256MB RAM) Windows XP For WinXP we recommend using this tool to speed-up and analyze : Boot-Vis Start the program and click on "Trace" and "Optimize" and it will automatically optimize your booting.
